2008-2009
Based on the success in Puerto Rico in late 2008 I took over project management and completed construction and renovation activities on Casa Marina Resort and Reach Resort, two hotels owned by a Blackstone managed portfolio in Key West, Florida. As in Puerto Rico my assignment was again to gain control of costs, complete remaining work and assist in settling outstanding claims. The work at Reach went uneventfully and all claims for payment and defective work were resolved. At Casa Marina a lawsuit was filed which required significant correction to existing work for compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). I assisted legal counsel in managing this claim and developed a complete scope of work and cost estimate for compliance. The corrective work was undertaken after my departure by the property engineering department. We also uncovered significant remedial work at Casa Marina that involved relocation of electrical equipment that had been installed within the storm surge zone. All activities were successfully concluded in early 2009 and the properties converted from LXR Luxury Resorts to Hilton Waldorf-Astoria brands.
